Starting Over

It’s daunting to start over again. You’ve just completed something that took every inch of your energy, creativity, strength, and courage. Maybe it was a novel or a marriage or a tough situation. And though there’s some relief because it’s over, you’re mostly weary and worn from the experience. In fact, It feels like you’ve just had open heart surgery and though the surgery is 4 hours past, no one is sure that you’ll make it through the night.

Lately, I feel like that. Like the bruised lonely apple that you put in the open to remind you to eat it, but you keep knocking it off the counter by accident instead.

It’s hard to start over. Especially when the path is anything but straight and seems completely inclined and you are fatigued and the voice in your head keeps repeating “I don’t want to do this!”

Sometimes all you can do is pray, turn around, put one foot in front of the other, and start climbing.
