I routinely find myself staring at my reflection in the mirror asking this question. About 90% of the time my hair is pulled into a bun of some sorts since I a) wear a uniform to work and b) am almost always at work. Hawaii weather (though beautiful) is not conducive to wearing it out in a massive afro or curly style since the humidity makes it look like I’ve been brutally attacked by a cotton candy machine. I’ve been pinning it up more and trying various styles with good (oh your hair is so pretty!) to ok (oh, your hair?) results. I found that head wraps and scarves are an excellent way to add some sparkle to an ordinary bun or pin-up do.
Oh, you don’t look good in scarves? That’s crazy, so stop saying it. Anyone can wear a scarf. Yes, even you. Stand by for anecdotal advice:
Once my twin and I were shopping and I tried on this beautiful dress and I was convinced (CONVINCED) that I single-handedly made the dress look like a trash bag. I was certain that it looked so awful that people in the dressing room were laughing at me and saying “I hope she doesn’t get that dress.” So I did what any normal person would do. I arched my back, stuck out my stomach, hunched my shoulders, scrunched my face and informed my twin (in overly dramatic sotto voice): “I DON’T THINK THIS LOOKS GOOD ON ME!” To which she calmly (always calmly) replied: of course it doesn’t when you stand like that! So what does this story have to do with you wearing scarves? Not much I guess. It’s just that attitude/confidence is everything; in fashion and life.
If you put on a scarf (or any piece of clothing for that matter) and instantly hunch your shoulders and start furtively darting about and freaking out because you think everyone is staring at THAT THING on your head then chances are you might look a little awkward in a scarf. If, however, you play with it for awhile. Do a little scarf-fam (familiarization) and acclimate to wearing a scarf (this is like a 10 min process not a decade btw) then you will probably succeed at wearing a scarf.
If that fails (or succeeds), then you should check out the Easy (Like Sunday Morning) line of hand-made hair ties and wraps that will be part of PureLove’s fall collection. They come in a variety of patterns and solids and are very easy to wear—especially for you scarf novices. Stay Glamourous!
