During the grand final of the ESL One Stockholm Major, Valve announced The International 11 would take place in the city of Singapore. This will be the first time the International will come to Southeast Asia.

The International is the culmination of the entire Dota Pro Circuit (DPC). The event, which takes place in October of every year, invites the 18 best Dota teams in the world to compete for the Aegis of Champions, the trophy that immortalizes the winners of The International. The event’s 11th iteration will take place in Suntec City, Singapore in the city’s convention center.

The last time that Southeast Asia hosted a Dota event was the One Esports Singapore Major in 2021. Invictus Gaming won the event and it showed there has always been a large group of fans in the region ready to attend a live Dota event.

With the announcement of The International 11 taking place in Singapore, the path of events to The International 11 is now clear. At this point, PSG.LGD, TSM and OG are the first teams to have enough DPC points to secure their International berth. The next set of invites will be determined at the next Dota Major, the Arlington Major, taking place in the United States.

Southeast Asia has one of the longest histories of any region in Dota. Born in the internet cafes that are in every street corner of the region, Southeast Asian fans have repeatedly shown their excitement for the esport.

Southeast Asian teams have also been performing well as of late. Boom Esports and Fnatic have both made great runs at the last two international tournaments. Boom Esports won the GAMERS GALAXY: Dota Invitational Dubai 2022, and Fnatic lost to the eventual champions of ESL One Stockholm, OG Esports, in the second round of the lower bracket.
